A useful bonsai course does not have to be in your own city. What matters is learning from a real tree, understanding concrete decisions and leaving with a plan for the following seasons. Participants therefore travel to Zorneding near Munich from different parts of Germany and from abroad.
When is the journey worthwhile?
The journey is worthwhile when the workshop offers more than a general demonstration. Trunk, roots, health, development stage and possible designs are discussed on the actual material. Walter Pall explains why an intervention is useful now, or why the tree should first recover and gain strength.
Preparing your tree
Beginners can learn from robust nursery material; advanced participants often bring established bonsai or yamadori. Secure the pot and trunk for transport, protect the tree from heat, frost and draughts, and bring photographs of its previous development. Discuss large or fragile trees before travelling.
Planning the visit
The course takes place at Schwarzstr. 12, 85604 Zorneding, east of Munich and reachable by car or S-Bahn. Confirm the course date, times and suitable material before a long journey. The garden and its physical selection are available on site only; there is no online shop.
What you take home
The goal is not necessarily a finished tree in one day. The lasting result is a clear order for care, growth, pruning, wiring, repotting or waiting. That individual guidance is what makes the journey valuable.
